Đi taxi / xe công nghệ — Getting to the right destination
Use an address or landmark with a taxi or app-based ride, confirm the destination, handle a difficult entrance, ask about time and stop location, and distinguish vehicle travel from the digital app itself.
What you will learn
B68 introduced taxis and xe công nghệ. B93 now focuses on the practical interaction: telling a driver where to go and confirming the final destination.
1. Giving the destination
- Cho tôi đến địa chỉ này.
- Anh cho em đến 25 đường Hoa Mai nhé.
- Cho em đến khách sạn này với.
The self-reference and address term depend on the driver–passenger relationship.
2. Show the address
If pronunciation is difficult, you can show the written address or map pin:
Địa chỉ đây ạ.
This is often more reliable than repeatedly guessing at an unfamiliar street name.
3. Confirm the destination
- Đúng địa chỉ này ạ.
- Ở gần chợ Hoa Mai.
- Cổng ở trong hẻm ạ.
A written address, landmark and spoken direction can complement each other, as Unit 8 taught.
4. App-based ride vocabulary
Xe công nghệ is a broad everyday term for app-based ride services. The ride may be by motorbike or car.
The app may handle pickup, destination and payment, but spoken communication can still be necessary.
5. Finding the driver
- Anh đang ở đâu ạ?
- Em đang đứng trước cổng.
- Em mặc áo màu xanh.
These are useful when pickup points are crowded or unclear.
6. License plate
Biển số xe means vehicle license plate.
For safety, match the vehicle and driver information shown in the app when using an app-based service.
7. Ask about time
- Từ đây đến đó mất bao lâu?
- Khoảng bao nhiêu phút ạ?
Traffic can change the estimate.
8. Give a final turn
- Anh rẽ trái ở đây nhé.
- Đi thẳng một chút nữa ạ.
- Dừng ở trước cửa giúp em với.
Use directions only when needed. Do not constantly instruct a driver who already has a route unless there is a practical reason.
9. Dừng ở đây
- Dừng ở đây được rồi ạ.
- Cho em xuống ở đây nhé.
Xuống here means get off/out of the vehicle in context.
10. Road access can differ
A car may not be able to enter a narrow alley or restricted area. A motorbike may reach closer. Pickup/drop-off points can also be limited by traffic rules.
Do not assume every map pin is directly reachable by every vehicle.
11. A short taxi dialogue
Khách: Anh cho em đến địa chỉ này nhé.
Tài xế: Ở đường Hoa Mai phải không em?
Khách: Dạ. Cổng ở trong hẻm, gần trường học ạ.
Tài xế: Được rồi.
12. Payment
Depending on the service, payment may be:
- cash;
- bank transfer;
- in-app payment;
- card or wallet linked to the app.
Do not assume the same payment workflow for taxi and every ride-hailing platform.
13. Common beginner mistakes
- Assuming xe công nghệ means one exact vehicle.
- Ignoring the app’s vehicle/driver verification information.
- Assuming every map pin is reachable by car.
- Giving excessive turn-by-turn instructions when they are unnecessary.
Try it
- Show a driver a written address.
- Explain that the entrance is inside an alley near a school.
- Ask how long the trip will take.
- Ask the driver to stop in front of a building.
Quick recap
Taxi and ride-hailing conversations combine address, landmarks, directions, time and relationship-based requests. Digital maps help, but spoken clarification still matters.
